Sea level has risen 4-8 inches over the last century. Continuing sea level rise and increasingly frequent and fierce hurricanes and storms in the Caribbean will worsen flooding, storm surges, salinization of coastal aquifers, and erosion of beaches, all threatening island communities. Over 18 islands around the world are on the verge of being totally submerged.
